District BNP has held a protest rally in Khulna demanding the unconditional release of national leader Begum Khaleda Zia, the dissolution of parliament and the establishment of a neutral government aimed at holding free, fair and participatory elections, and an end to the mass arrests of leaders and activists in cases of disappearance.
The largest rally in recent times, held with the spontaneous participation of thousands of leaders and activists, stretched from the entrance of Heraj Market to the police station intersection. The huge procession of various police stations and affiliated organizations who came to join the rally raised slogans against the illegal unelected government.
After the rally, as per the central announcement, a delegation of the district BNP went to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and handed over a memorandum containing 7-point demands. District Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain accepted the memorandum.
At the rally, BNP leaders said that Sheikh Hasina's government is pursuing the politics of revenge. They are using the subservient courts to prolong their illegally seized power and imprisoning Begum Khaleda Zia. They are obstructing the return of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to the country with fabricated cases. Keeping the last elections in view, they are arresting BNP leaders and activists in thousands of cases of incoherence across the country.
