A farmer from the Petrovsky District grows blueberries on an industrial scale. State support helped him realize his dream. In 2021, he received 2 million rubles under the Agrostartup program.

- We poured a layer of sawdust inside, then a layer of peat, then sawdust on top again, and then we planted bushes and mulched everything with pine bark.

There are 2.5 thousand blueberry bushes growing on a 60-hectare plot. The young farmer decided to start growing this berry during the self-isolation period. He studied at the Federal School of Farmers and met experienced gardeners. His victory in the competition under the Agrostartup program helped him realize his dream.

Alexey Zhironkin, farmer: “Why blueberries? Firstly, the crop is quite new to us, in Tambov Oblast, as far as I know, literally a couple of people grow it. Secondly, the berry is very healthy. So we decided to give it a try.”

Alexey bought the seedlings in Michurinsk and planted them in August three years ago. He chose three varieties. They are distinguished by the size of the berries and the ripening time.

If you compare them with this one, you can see the difference. These are smaller bushes. These are larger bushes. Further on that side is Bluecrop. It is accordingly the tallest.”
