In 2020, in a conversation with Chris Anderson, philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates discussed the state of the COVID-19 pandemic and where he thought its course was heading. “It makes me so angry that the government is not allocating testing to where it’s needed, and maybe that needs to happen at the state level because it’s not happening at the federal level,” Gates said, “But there’s no middle course in this matter. It’s sad that the shutdown is going to be harder on poor countries than it is on rich ones.”
