The topic of social media could not be missed at the V AEA Forum . Daniel Casal, founding partner of Arroba, spoke about the importance of the presence of advertisers in these new media where the consumer is both messenger and receiver.

What is social media? Casal offered the following definition: a discipline of interactive marketing that encompasses a set of applications and functionalities that aim to allow us to share information and experiences in a simple way with other people through the use of electronic devices.

On social networks there are not only people, there are bc data brazil companies, there are brands. In fact, 34% of Internet users talk about brands and products. For this reason, Casal believes that "if in 2009 you are not on social media, you are not on the Internet. The fact that you have a website does not mean that you are in the most correct form on the Internet." 73% of Spanish Internet users use social networks, it is the second European country in use of this type of pages, only surpassed by the United Kingdom, therefore, "brands have to be there."

YouTube broke the traditional market for audiovisual media and was one of the first to turn consumers into content producers. “Before, what we had was a monologue, and based on repetitions, the consumer was made to believe what was said. Now we live in a new concept of multilateralism where we are all connected to everyone else,” explains the director of Arroba.

"We have to start listening to our new users, because shouting is no longer enough today," says Casal. Are advertisers doing this? Many are: Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Canon, Nintendo, Samsung, Nokia, etc. "Companies are realizing that if they are not there, they are not reaching the new type of consumer," he concluded.
