The presentation of an innovative product at the intersection of science and generative AI took place on September 18, 2024 in London. The new generative AI solution, developed in collaboration with partners from the library community, offers students and researchers unprecedented convenient and continuous access to information. Primo Research Assistant instantly processes natural language queries, providing expanded access to sources and references, which greatly simplifies the search process.

Yariv Kursh, Senior Vice President of Ex Libris™, a Clarivate™ company, said: “Primo Research Assistant uses responsible academic AI to connect students and researchers to trusted, authoritative sources. This helps stimulate their curiosity and build confidence as they advance their knowledge. Clarivate is committed to working with the community to harness the power of AI and develop best practices for its responsible use.”

Primo Research Assistant, part of the Primo Discovery platform, is built on the Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture and leverages the Ex Libris Central Discovery Index (CDI), which includes over 5 billion records from thousands of publishers, aggregators, and repositories.

Main characteristics:

Semantic search and natural language queries: users can interact with the system iceland phone numbers using their natural language, making the search process simpler and more intuitive

AI-powered answers with source links: The tool instantly provides answers based on the top five abstracts with access to full texts and a full list of results

Suggestions to expand your search: The assistant suggests ideas for further research, allowing users to delve deeper into selected topics

Support for queries in different languages: users can ask questions and receive answers not only in English, but also in other languages.

To ensure the product meets the needs of librarians and their users, it was developed in close collaboration with development partners. The Primo Research Assistant beta program launched in June 2024 and included 18 institutions in 10 countries and regions. The beta tester group includes people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the global academic community.

First unveiled in June 2024, Summon Research Assistant is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2025.

Primo Research Assistant is powered by the Clarivate Academic AI Platform, which enables rapid and consistent integration of AI capabilities across our portfolio. All Clarivate AI tools are developed with the principles of responsible AI in mind.

This year, Clarivate launched the AI in Academia Advisory Council, a group designed to foster collaboration and exchange of views that advance the responsible development and application of AI in academia.
