In 2016, Gartner finally updated the criteria used to evaluate vendors in the Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms, prioritizing modern platforms with self-service capabilities, accessibility, agility and ease of discovery of insights over IT-centric reporting tools. This was already a reality in the market, as demonstrated by the large number of migration projects from legacy reporting tools to more modern Business Discovery solutions and the non-existent reverse migrations.
Qlik has remained one of the market leaders for 7 years, with some notable losses. Among the companies that stopped being leaders in the quadrant in 2016, after Gartner modernized the evaluation criteria, are companies such as MicroStrategy, Oracle, IBM, SAP and SAS.
These changes are in line with the changes that occur in organizations that seek to modernize, adopting tools that allow them to accompany the business and leaving aside the old BI providers.
This is reflected not only in Gartner's magic quadrant but also in surveys such as the latest one from BARC.
As Gartner Magic Quadrant leader Josh Parenteau summed australia number data up last year following the change in evaluation criteria , “There are some people who think Blockbuster will make a comeback and taxis will prevail in the war with Uber. The smartest IT people will use the new MQ as a license to change for the better . ”
QlikView and Qlik Sense, two sides of the same coin.
QlikView and Qlik Sense share the same engine and are part of the same technological platform. Qlik Sense provides a modern, self-service-oriented interface for end users.
Both tools share the engine, logic and data layer, which is why they represent between 70% and 90% of the platform implementation effort.
With almost 400 customers in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay using QlikView on a daily basis, it is clear that QlikView is far from gone and continues to have annual releases of version 12.
As demonstrated by the BARC survey and the very high maintenance renewal rate, the vast majority of QlikView customers are very happy and are not forced to migrate but instead are gaining greater flexibility with Qlik Sense, reusing a large part of their investment.
With QlikView and Qlik Sense, Qlik is moving to a Platform concept that also recently incorporated Qlik NPrinting for static report distribution, Qlik GeoAnalytics for spatial analysis and cartographic processing, and Qlik Web Connectors for obtaining data from all types of sources, including cloud sources.
