Google My Business is a very easy way to get really prominent results for local searches. How much is it actually used and how many companies actually claim their Google-generated listings?
Google creates entries independently!
Yes, even if you haven't actively published a Google My Business entry, Google still likes to grab data from telephone books or industry directories and create new entries on its own. Reviews can be created here even without your involvement.
About the experiment
236,000
entries
22
cities
3,000
categories
In November 2020, I asked myself the fundamental tunisia phone number data question of how widely Google My Business is used in Germany. After a few searches, I came across the provider . This allowed me to take a closer look at a large number of relevant Google My Business entries.
The result is a report on 236,000 unique Google My Business entries from over 2,600 categories and from the 22 largest cities in Germany.
setup of the experiment
In order to get as many different results as possible, I accessed over 3,000 different Google My Business categories. I also filtered these by search volume and removed any categories that were too unknown.
data overview
The result is a list of over 2,600 Google My Business categories which, in combination with 22 cities (and a few filters), resulted in a list of over 236,000 Google My Business entries.
Oh no, Google Sheets really has a limit!
For visualization, I usually like to use Google Data Studio . There have been some exciting updates in the last few months and thanks to the numerous third-party integrations, there is almost nothing that cannot be visualized.
However, I soon reached the limit of Google Sheets (5,000,000 cells) and experienced terrible loading times. So I then transferred the data to Google Big Query, which greatly improved the loading speed in Google Data Studio.
selection of cities
In order to get as broad a picture as possible, I chose the 22 largest German cities and searched for data there. The source for this was this Wikipedia entry .

The results
After storing in Google Big Query and visualizing and filtering in Google Data Studio, the following results can be seen. All figures and facts refer only to the data I collected. Since there are more than 22 cities in Germany, these can of course vary.
