Fake News on Your Own Behalf

Post by asimj1 »

On Monday, the National Council continued the No-Billag debate ( persoenlich.com reported ). Two hours earlier, Swissinfo launched a so-called "fact check" : It was intended to "examine the best arguments" of "opponents and supporters" from the first council debate on September 14th." This was the claim of the six authors, including the editor-in-chief of Swissinfo and her deputy. The "fact check" was immediately shared on social media by numerous SRF moderators. There was also support from the very top. Jean-Michel Cina (CVP), President of the SRG, wrote on Twitter: "Independent reporting also includes correcting statements that are australia rcs data inconsistent with the facts. Facts remain facts. From every perspective." Really? A detailed analysis of the "fact check" reveals astonishing shortcomings.

The first statement that the “Fact Check” claims to verify comes from SVP National Councillor Céline Amaudruz: “The privileges granted to the SRG make it a quasi-monopolistic company.”

The classification by Swissinfo begins like this: "According to Duden, a monopoly is a 'market-dominating company'." If you're going to use a spelling dictionary, you might as well have looked up the term "quasi." This would have made it easy for the six language police officers to find out that you can use a preceding "quasi" to reduce the absoluteness of the following word. A quasi-monopoly is not a monopoly in the strict economic sense.
