The location of LeWeb London is an old church opposite Westminster Abbey, reason enough to start the second day with an organ version of Van Halen's jump . Besides these musical interruptions, which give LeWeb a special character, day two was for me all about Apps, social media and a look into the future.
One of the apps that has received a lot of attention, especially in the United States, is Highlight . This could not be missed at LeWeb'12. Highlight actively shows you who is near you at any time that you have the app on your phone. They do this based on your profile and how you are connected to someone (friends of friends). You are therefore actively alerted if there is someone nearby who is connected to, for example, 3 of your friends. The app also looks at the context of the relationship. A student does not need to know that his roommate is nearby, but perhaps that there is someone with the same interests close to him/her. Of course, all of this to the extent that you have allowed this in your privacy settings.
Paul Davison, CEO of Highlight, indicates that this may feel a bit strange now, but that in new zealand telegram data a few years we will probably find this completely normal. And I can agree with that. Social media celebrity Gary Vaynerchuk (who also predicted the acquisition of Instagram by Facebook in early 2012) said the following at the beginning of this year: “The next big thing will be that you walk around and get information on people”. This all seems a bit futuristic, but when I combine this with Google's Glass Project, it gives me a strong feeling that this may become reality sooner than expected.
