4. You can put a separate small "rug" (material: carpet, plastic, rubber, silicone, etc.) on each step and fix them with screws with decorative overlays. A wide selection of such overlays can be found in stores selling furniture fittings.

5. The simplest option is to cover the steps with varnish and add fine clean sand. Of course, the sand should be thoroughly washed and of a fine fraction, ideally quartz (it is translucent). Alternatively, cover with varnish (and you can do this under some template to get an ornament), and then, while the varnish is not dry, sprinkle it with fine sand. If you take colored sand, and even different colors, you can get quite an interesting decor. When the varnish dries, sweep away the excess sand, and the stuck grains will provide the steps with "roughness". Instead of varnish, you can use some kind of glue (acrylic, epoxy, or, in extreme cases, regular PVA emulsion).

6. You can apply a pattern to the steps using oil paint, to which nurse data can again add sand. Of course, with varnish, paints and sand, it is better to experiment first on smooth wooden planks.

7. Rubber covering for steps (made from crumbs) is becoming increasingly popular.
