Controlling devices by voice or requesting information on demand – that's what intelligent voice assistants do. For many consumers, they have become an indispensable part of everyday life. Regardless of the device, two out of five Internet users (39 percent) use Alexa, Bixby, Cortana, Google Assistant, Magenta and Siri at least occasionally .
This is the result of a representative survey commissioned by the digital association Bitkom, which was conducted in May 2020. According to this, the smart helpers are mainly used on smartphones. Two thirds of voice assistant users (66 percent) investor database enter voice commands frequently or very frequently. Tablet computers come in second place, with two out of five (41 percent) often using voice control.
A quarter of users (26 percent) frequently access services via smart speakers such as Amazon Echo, Google Home or Apple HomePod, and one in five (21 percent) frequently or very frequently controls their smart TV using their voice. Voice control via a smartwatch or headphones is not very common so far, with 7 percent of voice assistant users doing this more often.
"Intelligent voice assistants are developing rapidly and are available in more and more devices - from cooker hoods to cars," says Bitkom expert Dr. Sebastian Klöß. "In the future, controlling devices by voice will be as natural as pressing buttons or swiping on a display."
