Lessons Learned
Subtitle the Tyrant may be an example of a successful, self-conceived campaign, but of course not everything went well right away. We could have handled some things better. To conclude, here are a few do's and don'ts:
Because it is a bit quieter at Hivos during the summer, we had more time to do everything ourselves and there was more room for creativity.
By involving everyone in the project from the start and allowing thinkers and doers to work together in the right way, a good and motivated team was created.
With the help of Bombay TV, LuckyTV and examples of other campaigns (like this one!) it was very easy to convince decision makers.
By not getting the most out of the campaign (so: no donors, no 'leads') the site remained simple, open and honest for visitors and it became easier to achieve the actual goal (brand awareness).
We didn't dwell too much on disappointments.A to do but iceland phone number list couldn't. That's just the way it is.
We made dozens of videos in the test phase and showed them to everyone who wanted to see them. It convinced us of possible success and that motivated us enormously.
When we went live, no one really knew what the servers could handle. That won't happen to us again.
By inviting not only communications staff but also content-related people to the first brainstorm, we were able to get concrete very quickly.
By sharing good results (and videos) the enthusiasm within the entire organization grew enormously. Everyone is now making videos.
We are going to brag about not hiring agencies in this article, but with more budget we would have had a better design and maybe more publicity. Bottom line: only outsource what you don't have in-house.
