Telekom and RTL Deutschland introduce groundbreaking 5G network for live TV

For the 2024 European Football Championship, RTL Deutschland will enter a new era of television production. In collaboration with Telekom, the media company has introduced a private 5G campus network in its Cologne studios, enabling flexible and innovative live TV production. This network, the first of its kind in Germany, uses advanced 5G standalone technology, which offers fast and wireless transmission options in the production area, such as the use of wireless cameras both indoors and outdoors.

Traditional live productions have so far relied primarily on wired macedonia mobile database camera systems that were moved around the studios to capture dynamic images. The new system, on the other hand, promises unprecedented flexibility and independence through wireless technology. The short signal paths within the independent 5G architecture enable ultra-fast data processing and thus support data-intensive applications that must respond within milliseconds.

"With the introduction of this dedicated 5G network at our production site, we are raising the quality of our content to a new level and making the broadcast of our popular formats even more efficient and user-friendly," explains Matthias Dang, Chief Commercial, Technology & Data Officer at RTL Deutschland.
