Following in the footsteps of Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch, Instagram has added a moderator feature to its live streaming functionality. By tapping the menu icon in the comment bar, creators can choose a specific moderator for their stream or a moderator suggested by Instagram. Moderators (known as mods) can now report nasty comments, remove viewers, and disable comments for certain participants.

As Instagram strives to attract more live creators, the addition of moderators should go a long way towards providing them with a safer environment to operate in. Supersync allows creators to upload multiple pieces of media (photos or videos) with a song, and automatically sync them into a reel or story post to the beat of the music. When selecting Supersync, users can choose their own song or select one offered automatically by the app. Supersynch will adjust the length of the video to match the song, which sounds great, but it also means you can’t manually choose the end point of the video. While it doesn’t yet have the functionality to automatically find the end point, Supersynch is a great tool for amateur video editors, and will hasten the demise of additional video editing tools in the long run.

4. Improvements in messaging and chat functionalities
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri says messaging has become the primary way people connect online, so the company has added a number of messaging features to its DM inbox. New features include the ability for users to reply to a DM while browsing without losing their place in the feed. A new tap-and-hold share button feature lets people easily re-share posts with their friends, while they can now also see who among their friends is online to chat.

And, as music is increasingly important in kickstarting short-form video trends like Reels, Instagram has moved to integrate Apple Music, Amazon Music and Spotify, allowing users to share a 30-second preview of the song in the chat window. It has also adopted a popular Facebook Messenger feature that allows users to create a poll directly in a group chat.

5. Your activity
Accessed through the new “Your Activity” tab on the profile, this feature allows users to bulk delete content such as posts, Stories , Reels, comments, likes, or reactions to Story stickers. Users with Instagram profiles can also find deleted or archived content, view their search history, see previously visited links, and learn how much time they’ve spent on the platform. Your Activity also allows users to filter and sort content and interactions, and search for past comments, likes, and Story replies by date.
