Conclusion Seven party leaders, seven styles

Jolande Sap (GreenLeft)
Difficult if your predecessor (Femke Halsema) has almost 180,000 followers on Twitter. You won't easily surpass that. Nevertheless, Sap is not doing badly with almost 49,000 followers. Sap's biography does come across as very distant: "This is the official Twitter channel of Jolande Sap, party leader of GroenLinks in the House of Representatives, maintained by GroenLinks". Especially with Sap's image, a bit more spontaneity could be considered. But hey, that's just an opinion. Sap also does not reveal in her biography that she is the party leader, although netherlands telegram data we have all heard that by now. Sap herself follows 99 accounts. Care has been taken with the background. The visual identity of GroenLinks is well expressed. In terms of Twitter frequency, Sap is not one of the most fervent users. It does not really want to be interactive either. Responding to others, Sap, like Wilders and Rutte, does not start doing that. The timeline feels like a kind of travelogue. Sap is often 'on the road to' this or that meeting. She hardly says anything about the political positions of Groen Links. Remarkable for a politician in campaign time.
Each with its own identity. And let's not forget that several smaller parties are participating in the elections, whose party leaders are also active on Twitter. Of course, a smart Twitter approach alone won't win you the elections. At the same time, Twitter is a perfect medium to spread your message as a politician, without the media acting as a filter. A good party leader therefore uses it thoughtfully. In terms of approach, Samsom and to a lesser extent Roemer stand out for me. They clearly choose their spearheads and do not avoid interaction (if you suspect that this reflects a political preference, you are miles off). It is certainly not too late for all other party leaders. With a bit more interaction, clearly presenting positions and a touch more personal approach, you can go a long way.
