Due to the size of the social media landscape

Post by Bappy11 »

We have been inundated with opinions about the many opportunities that social media offer for some time now. However, there is also increasing attention for the dangers. It is unclear where the digital trail that social media leaves behind will lead us. All the more reason to have a dialogue about this. In this second article in the series Social Media SWOT ~with a twist~ the 8 weaknesses of social media.

The weaknesses of the social media SWOT ~with a twist~ are not drawn up from a specific organization. We start from weaknesses of social media itself and discuss opportunities and threats that social media can offer. On this, companies, governments, communities and even individuals can then base a specific strategy.

Weaknesses
1. Intensity
Because the internet and social media can be used anytime and anywhere, inefficient use is lurking, resulting in loss of productivity. The social aspect brings (apparent) expectations and social pressure, and that in a quantity and incessant pace that can require (too) much attention, and can even cause stress.

2. Entry threshold
Although the internet is accessible to almost everyone, there are still groups that have a higher threshold for access to it. This can be due to, among other things, a lack of peripherals (PC, telephone, mobile or wireless network), restrictions on use at work or at home (teenagers), political policy (China) or a disability (including mental or motor).

3. Rapidly changing
Growing technological possibilities ( future internet ) and transparency ( open oman phone number list innovation ) result in the social media landscape changing rapidly. More and more solutions are added, with new dangers and possibilities. Before a social media application has fully landed and can also reach the later adopters, and before policy and legislation and regulations have been coordinated, many new and different applications have already been launched.

4. Overloadthe intensity (speed, directness, quantity) and the spread (many different social media), individuals and organizations quickly experience an overload of information and communication. Statistics show that exabytes are now produced every week; more than all the data that was present on the internet in total a few years ago. The increase in social media use is the main cause of this.

5. Transparent
Digital traces and your social network and identity are becoming increasingly easy to trace. This is partly due to the fact that internet activities are linked to identities in social networks, and the number of applications that link and aggregate data from various sources is growing. It has become particularly difficult to erase your digital traces, remove unwanted content or protect your personal data. It has also become more difficult to determine who owns information.
