The entire ordering process originated in the virtual world of Decentraland. This shows that brands and services will also find their way into the metaverse, even without any effort on the part of said brands themselves. It also shows that businesses in the metaverse can complement businesses in the real world.
Sotheby’s
2021 will go down in history as the year NFT art entered the mainstream. Auction house Sotheby's played a crucial role in this. They even opened a virtual gallery modeled after their b2b email list London gallery at Decentraland. The virtual gallery was not opened for no reason, as Sotheby's held its Natively Digital auction in June 2021. Here, they auctioned off a work by Robert Alice, while a variety of NFT works from renowned NFT artists were on display.
The Walking Dead AMC
AMC's The Walking Dead is much more than a series, as it has spawned sequels and spin-offs, all sorts of merchandise, and now a game for money. The Walking Dead Empires will plug into the Gala Games ecosystem, allowing gamers to own land, earn and find assets, trade with other players, and more. Of course, there's nothing new about seeing games based on The Walking Dead, but this is the first time that players can own a part of the game world. Additionally, owning land can generate passive income, while survivors in the game world can earn money from trading. This is a big brand moving into a game for money. Comic book company Skybound is also taking The Walking Dead into the metaverse, thanks to The Sandbox.
Atari
Last but not least on the list is Atari, a gaming company that made early forays into virtual worlds like Decentraland and The Sandbox. Here, they are reviving their classic, cult gaming franchise within the metaverse. As a gaming company, Atari has been through some rough times, but has a brand that still goes strong. It’s possible that Atari’s presence in the metaverse is the spark the company needs to truly blossom again.
