It was in the mid-90s when I first heard about jojoba oil. I was sitting over coffee with adults and, as is usually the case, I was dying of boredom because I was too young to understand anything or to care about what they were talking about.
But, like most little girls, my attention was drawn to a younger female, perfumed, adorned, and made up. Quite advanced for the mid-90s when there weren't even half the things we have now, she was passionately talking about a fairly unknown term – the concept of “self-care” .
For the sake of "self-care" or the time we take just for ourselves and in which we pamper ourselves, take care of ourselves, splash around in a bubble bath, light scented candles that cost as much as designer perfumes, apply masks, scrubs, serums, gels and creams, nourish our hair and dedicate ourselves, many people still feel guilty today and decide to use that time for something else.
The idea of "self-care" in the 90s sounded as abstract as the idea of a UFO landing on the main city square, and aliens jumping out of the spacecraft and organizing a rave party for themselves and Earthlings.
But this younger woman spoke passionately about how she likes to afghanistan whatsapp list an afternoon or evening off, enjoy the peace and quiet, and slather her face, hair, and body with the various creams that make her so beautiful. I have to say that I listened to her with my mouth wide open in fascination, and couldn't wait until I was old enough to be able to slather myself with creams in pretty little boxes all afternoon.
So it's no wonder I remembered one thing she kept repeating and emphasizing how useful it was to the point where she spread it on bread – jojoba oil. To a little girl who could barely see over the edge of the table, jojoba oil seemed like something very exotic, special, unattainable and expensive.
Ah, when will I be old enough to use jojoba oil, I wondered, and after a while I forgot about both the oil and the made-up woman who spoke so passionately about it.
As the years passed, I finally got my hands on the cream in pretty little boxes and began, without a twinge of conscience, to set aside afternoons and evenings for “self-care .” Despite all this, I didn't remember jojoba oil.
Until one day I was aimlessly wandering around a perfumery looking for something I might need because, you know, those days when you don't really need anything but you still really want something, but you don't know what? Something to cheer you up, lift your spirits, and something you'll spend money on.
And so, wandering among the shelves, I came across jojoba oil. Do I need to mention that my mind immediately went back to that summer day when I first heard about jojoba oil and decided that I would use it as soon as I was old enough?
And so jojoba oil ended up in my shopping cart, and later on my face, and a few months later I wondered why I hadn't remembered it sooner and included it in my beauty routine because it's more than obvious that I would spread it on bread if only I could.
