Clear formulation of the design hypothesis

Post by maksudasm »

If you think about it, this is one of the most difficult tasks from the point of view of world progress. And from everyday positions too. But it is still possible, and for the most part it is for the successful implementation of this phase that inventors subsequently receive a reward in the form of royalties under the patent.

Business ideologist Alexander Osterwalder together with Yves Peignet (both are among the top 50 most influential management theorists) developed a strategy of nine blocks. In each of them, theses are formulated on the topic of the supposed, but not yet understood future product-hypothesis. During this phase of customer development, the developer himself must answer each of the questions.

Osterwalder's Brainstorming Method

Ultimately, this will lead to a self employed database formulation and/or a clear description of the product (it will cease to be a hypothesis and will move into the sketch category). These phase questions are:

Determine the intended value. Answer the questions: What need is your product intended to satisfy? What kind of benefit will consumers receive from using it?

Segment your users. Who are your consumers? What is their social environment? What is your buyer persona?

Decide on distribution channels. What is your model of communication with consumers? How should the new product be sold?

General interaction with users. Is there any intention to maintain contact with customers? If so, how?

Calculate the potential profitability of sales in each consumer market segment. (Additional questions are unnecessary here.)

Determine the resources required to implement the project (capital, skilled labor, time, etc.).

Come to an understanding whether you need a partner (s). What will their functionality be? And what will be your benefit from this?

Create a step-by-step plan for the physical implementation of the project (not a marketing one).

Form a cost structure. Which of the required resources are in short supply? And what simply dominates the cost structure?

As a result, you will develop an understanding:

sales market;

the main obstacles to the physical implementation of the project;

the cost of implementing the plan;

and most importantly – project ideas!
